Tips for Veterans to Find Jobs in the Civilian World

Network

The best place to start looking for a job is in your family and friend circles. Your family and friends know you, and they can suggest you work that will best suit your disposition, skillset and personality. Inform them that you are looking for a job and ask them whether they can refer you to any workplace. Pay attention to the coaching they provide you in terms of how to tackle job interviews and present yourself at a job and the likes.

Project Your Character

Besides your skillset and certifications, employers will want to know about your experiences in an attempt to gauge your character. There must have been instances in your military experience where you had to step up and take responsibility, make decisions for the team and exhibit leadership. Put those instances in the resume and in the interview.

Do Your Research

Most of what you have learned in the military can be applied in your career in the civilian world. But some organizations and companies would require an additional certification course in a particular field before they can employ you. Be aware of any such conditions and prepare accordingly.
